The 14th International Symposium on Wireless Personal Multimedia Communications

The 14th Wireless Personal Multimedia Communications Symposium (WPMC’11) was held in Brest, France. The WPMC symposia series were inaugurated in 1998 at Yokosuka Research Park, Japan, as a global platform which aims at enabling collaboration in the field of wireless information and multimedia communications. Held in Asia, Europe and America, WPMC has established itself as a unique global conference dedicated to wireless multimedia convergence.

WPMC'11 facts

Continuing the series, this 14th International Symposium on Wireless Personal Multimedia Communications was held for the first time in France. The theme of the Symposium was "Communications, Networking and Applications for the Internet of Things". In addition to keynote speeches and high-class technical sessions, the Symposium featured four workshops (Emergency Telecommunications, Opportunistic and Delay/Disruption-Tolerant Networking, Future Wellness and Medical ICT Systems, Mobility Management for Flat Networks), tutorials (OFDM Relay Technologies for the New Generation Wireless Communication Systems ; Wireless Information Infrastructures and the Future Internet: Protocol Components, System Architectures, Security and Privacy ; M2M: services, standardization, technological issues and business aspects) as well as product exhibits.

In the main conference, more than 120 papers were presented on the following topics: MIMO, OFDM, propagation and channel modelling, cognitive radio, hardware and software radio, radio resource management, optical wireless communications, trials on 3G/4G networks, MAC, relay and cooperative communications, ad-hoc networks, multihop networks, sensor networks, sensors: location and event detection, video transmission, broadcast and multicast, energy-efficient networks, communication and network technologies for new services.

The WPMC'11 was linked to another serie of events about the Internet of Things: the B-ware IoT week was continuing a serie of one-day meetings about high throughput mobile communications and the internet of things, that were held in Brest in the previous years. The opening of a 4G/LTE testbed open to researchers and industrials was of the key events (Tuesday 4). Products exhibits and industrial speeches were also programmed and open to the WPMC participants. (note that all links are for french speakers)

The WPMC'11 conference started on October 3 and ended on October 6 (tutorials on October 3). A technical visit and social program was proposed on October 7 : Cité des Télécoms + Côte de Granit Rose / Mont Saint-Michel.
